I think by now people are pretty good at distinguishing between content and the sponsorship of that content. With all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the deficit and the costs of government services, why not allow these government websites to become a source of revenue? What practices, policies, and principles should guide the federal web in the next 5 years?
It's sad that our Federal dept websites have very few patriotic designs in them, especially the White House one, which has just a little US flag icon. Also, I think a few historical notes here and there would be a nice touch.
We should never stop acknowledging our rich heritage.
Archieve after 30 days and include an archieve search to retreive information
The executive orders should always be on the front web page. These are important for the public to know about. Right now, they are hard to find. Last time I had to do a search for a specific one as it was not clear as to which link to go to in order to find it.
Allow those who require 508 features and accomodations to select a version of the site with those features. Otherwise the site can contain any design elements that best display the content. These two different "modes" meet the spirt of 508, if not the letter.
It is interesting how many government organizations require the PMP and/or FAC-P/PM for many programs and projects, including IT, but it does not seem to be a requirement in the realm of web management. Open access to search engines ought to be the default for federal websites. Disallowing any section of a federal website ought to require OMB signoff and justification.
We need to move toward peace and to allow people a voice to have their ideas expressed on how to achieve peace. We need to celebrate The International Global Truce Peace One Day, Peace Day 9/21 of each year and acknowledge it on the USA.gov website. Add Peace to the list of drop-down choices of topics we can pick when we list the subject of our communication with government officials
The Web is set up to search for people - with the intent of establishing commerce. Citizens, however, change regions of interest very rarely.

A Plan of Peace, Global Truce and Cease Fire should be Posted on the USA.gov Website. Direct all related Government Departments to promote Peace Day.
Acknowledge and Promote Earth Day Each Year on USA.gov and related department websites. List ways in which governments are going green and sustainable and list things people can do to become more sustainable everyday and on Earth Day
All sites should include all content on audio form given the difficulties many Americans have with reading.
