Allow advertising on .gov websites

I think by now people are pretty good at distinguishing between content and the sponsorship of that content. With all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the deficit and the costs of government services, why not allow these government websites to become a source of revenue? A corporation that is balking at paying its fair share of taxes might be more interested if they could get credit for sponsoring cancer.gov, ...more »

Patriotic theme on home pages

It's sad that our Federal dept websites have very few patriotic designs in them, especially the White House one, which has just a little US flag icon. Also, I think a few historical notes here and there would be a nice touch.

We should never stop acknowledging our rich heritage.

All Executive Orders Should Be On Home Page

The executive orders should always be on the front web page. These are important for the public to know about. Right now, they are hard to find. Last time I had to do a search for a specific one as it was not clear as to which link to go to in order to find it.

Option on site for 508 compatibility

Allow those who require 508 features and accomodations to select a version of the site with those features. Otherwise the site can contain any design elements that best display the content. These two different "modes" meet the spirt of 508, if not the letter.

Project Management: PMP and FAC-P/PM required for web management

It is interesting how many government organizations require the PMP and/or FAC-P/PM for many programs and projects, including IT, but it does not seem to be a requirement in the realm of web management. This is an unfortunate discrepancy, as web management often falls into areas where project management is not the standard (public affairs, communications), yet the intersection with IT and the need for project and program ...more »

Require OMB permission for a Disallow in Robots.txt

Open access to search engines ought to be the default for federal websites. Disallowing any section of a federal website ought to require OMB signoff and justification.

Allow people to submit ideas to be posted for peace making.

We need to move toward peace and to allow people a voice to have their ideas expressed on how to achieve peace. We need to celebrate The International Global Truce Peace One Day, Peace Day 9/21 of each year and acknowledge it on the USA.gov website. Add Peace to the list of drop-down choices of topics we can pick when we list the subject of our communication with government officials

County Cookies Weather Application

The Web is set up to search for people - with the intent of establishing commerce. Citizens, however, change regions of interest very rarely.

Say I got a new job working for a Senator ... how would my life change ?

This application could be refreshed once an hour, but will not be (9/27). It is a prototype.
