Discontinue Usage of IE6

IE6 is extremely buggy and outdated. It is increasingly more and more difficult to design websites with IE6 in mind. There is no good reason why one should be using IE6 15 years after it was created.

Simple Web Adresses

Simple web addresses should be displayed/used. The below site should be www.usda.gov/fsa/sd/offices not http://offices.sc.egov.usda.gov/locator/app?state=sd&agency=fsa

At least have a button on the page to copy the simple link if it can't display in the browser.

Standardized CMS & Templates

While I think creativity is important and should be preserved, there really should be more standardization and consistency for web design when sites are related or linked to each other. Likewise, Content Management Systems (which generally effect overall design) can improve consistency from a functional standpoint. Ideally, all government sites could have at least some common design element to establish identity - ...more »

Concentrate On Easy Navigation and Content - Not Graphics

It seems to me too much emphasis is being placed on looking pretty without actually offering an easy way to navigate to important pages or relevant content. Although a site doesn't want to look too dated can we go back to providing stuff people are looking for rather than huge, pretty graphics please?

Index Website

Create a website with simple html text such as that used in www.craigslist.org that subdivides all the ".gov" websites into one page. For example all the science category such as NASA, NSF, NOAA, DARPA, and others would be under one section. Knowing what the federal government provides and where to find is important and should be easily accessible. One example that comes to mind is the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.gov) ...more »

New title for MedlinePlus?

MedlinePlus is a very useful site, but the name often gives people (both consumers and health providers) the idea that it is a super-clinically oriented version of Medline. While on a project visiting rural health clinics throughout the state, many providers indicated that they had not realized what MedlinePlus was or that it had patient information. The name intimidates people from trying it. Possible to change the name ...more »

usajobs.opm.gov

When jobs are listed on USAJOBS please list the qualification requirements and pay scales in language that non-military and current non-governmental people can understand, or provide links or mouse-overs that provide a basic explination of requirements. Also, add a mandatory reply system. Applicants are notified that their resumes are accepted, but there is zero follow up when it comes to whether or not the person is ...more »

Hurricane Center should have easier data accessibility

I see no standard in how the NHC organizes their data via XML. There should be 1(ONE) XML file one can go to and grab forecast coordinates, current storms, and tropical waves. The wallet XML files are fine but a combined XML of all live data would be better. There are too many hops one must do to get current data via XML

Copyright the FAFSA trademark

I'm a financial aid officer at a small, Northeastern technical college that serves a primarily older, low-income population. Since a significant portion of our students aren't that computer literate, they don't realize they're getting cheated by bogus URL's, such as FAFSA.com, FAFSA.net, etc, which ask for credit card information, and charge upwards of $80, for the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA]. ...more »

Issues Pertaining to Usability

There are several aspects of regulations.gov that could be improved. First, although the website offers links to the pertinent portions of the NPRM, the cite lacks a plain language summary of the rules. It is conceivable that users will not find the text of the NRPM helpful in clarifying questions they may have about a proposed rule. Offering a plain language summary, in addition to the NPRM, could enhance both user ...more »
