Web managers may walk away from this discussion with the intention of applying one or two of these suggestions to an existing site design. Those web managers will just be wasting time. Content is still king, but trying to get it from departments, divisions, remote offices and other stakeholders can be an exercise in futility.
Best practices for enabling and encouraging stakeholders, SMEs and other responsible parties to contribute new and updated information should be shared and implemented.
As vendor advertising continues to grow, content providers will beg for apps for specific platforms -- iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and even WebOS (don't laugh). The way forward, however, is platform independent development and delivery with the native language of the web: HTML5 and CSS3. Plan accordingly.
